Remedial Design and Pilot Testing, Costa Mesa, CA

Accord Engineering was retained by an oil refinery company to conduct a feasibility study and to prepare a remedial action plan for an active gas station site. The soil and groundwater was contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbon fuels, including benzene and MTBE, within the areas of pump islands and underground storage tanks. The following tasks were accomplished: (1) Remedial design and reporting, (2) Field pilot testing, (3) Groundwater monitoring wells installation, and (4) Data collection and evaluation.

In order to minimize the impact to business operations, our engineer conducted a 48-hour dual-phase-extraction pilot test using a truck-mounted extraction and thermal oxidation system. Three groundwater wells were installed as testing wells and future monitoring wells. The test was successfully completed. Testing data was evaluated and a conceptual level of remedial design was prepared in the remedial action plan.
